Preparing for a Home Inspection

At Safe Haven Inspections, we want your home inspection in Penticton and the South Okanagan to go smoothly and efficiently.  A well-prepared property allows us to perform a thorough evaluation without delays, giving you (or your buyer) the most accurate and detailed report possible.  As your trusted local inspector we appreciate your cooperation in making access easy and safe.

Follow this simple checklist to ensure everything is ready for the scheduled inspection:

Provide Clear Access to Key Areas

Ensure full access to basements, crawlspaces, and attic(s).  Clear away any personal property, boxes, shelving, or items blocking attic hatches, crawlspace entries, or access points.  Our thorough inspection requires unobstructed entry to these spaces.

Make Mechanical Systems Easily Accessible

Clear the path to the mechanical room, including the furnace, water supply lines, water heater, electrical panel, and related equipment.  Remove any obstacles so we can safely and efficiently inspect these critical systems.

Pets

As an animal lover myself, I completely understand that pets are part of the family.  If your pets tend to be underfoot, curious, or like to escape when doors are opened, it can help the inspection go more smoothly if they are kept secured during my visit.  This lets me concentrate fully on inspecting your home without distraction and keeps everyone (including your pets) safe and relaxed.

Ensure Utilities Are Fully Operational

Confirm that all utilities—including electricity, gas (if applicable), and water—are turned on and working. This includes the water heater so we can properly test hot water systems and related components.  For unoccupied homes, it is normal for some utilities to be turned off and that poses only a limitation on what can be inspected.

Gather and Make Remotes Accessible

Leave remotes for fireplaces, ceiling fans, garage doors, or any other features that require them in an obvious, convenient spot (such as on the kitchen counter).

Clean Up Outdoor Areas if Needed

Remove any pet waste from the yard or exterior spaces to allow for a safe and comfortable walkthrough of the property grounds.

If there are any special instructions, unique features, locked areas, or access considerations for your property, please let us know in advance. A quick note or call to (250) 486-5869 or safehaveninspectionscanada@gmail.com helps us prepare accordingly and keeps the process stress-free.
